Looks extremely delicate but great quality I am reordering another one. The one we had broke but that was due to blatant negligence not some sort of quality issue. Just to give you an idea my mom once left it on the stove for almost an entire day without any water inside. It did not crack or anything. Even though this glass is durable you still have to take care of it. I think we are a society too used to plastic. But anyway this kettle is the only one I've tries that does not give the water any kind of metallic or plasticy taste to it.
Cool handle Very nice minimal kettle. Handle stays cool enough to use without a pot grabber / towel. Now I'm adding a few more words to make amazon happy.
Disaster I've bought two of these because the lid on the first one cracked while I was pouring water in a cup. The second one did the same. They both lasted about 9 months. Obviously I won't be buying another. If you go to the Teavana website you'll find similar complaints. I wish i had read those before i ever purchased this tea kettle.
Perfect for me! Ok if you want an unbreakable tea kettle get something made out of stainless steel. On the other hand if you want a reasonably durable and easy to clean tea kettle that heats your water without adding off flavors and that has a handle that stays cool this is the one! Other models still have a metal lid and/or a metal or plastic whistle. I suppose stainless steel isn't too bad but I prefer the purity of glass. As for the plastic tops whistles and handles ick! Who wants plastic vapors in their tea? I suggest that you remove the silicone seal on the lid as well. You can't count on it holding the lid on when you pour anyway it is much safer to remove the lid for before pouring so that the lid doesn't fall out and break. If you just remove the lid before you pour you don't need the seal at all. The resulting quiet rattle lets you know the water is boiling without an annoying whistle. The further benefit is that the kettle is then 100% glass. Will this kettle last forever? Probably not. Mine cracked after over 2 years of continuous heavy use 4 or more pots per day. Also I frequently refilled it with cold water immediately after pouring out the boiling water. In a nutshell I ABUSED this kettle for two years and that's why I'm buying another. But it was GREAT while it lasted. The handle stays cool and the water is pure and clean.
Teavana Alasdair Glass Tea Kettle This is an outstanding product with one exception If the lid is too tight or too loose return it for one that fits only tight enough to keep the lid in place when filled with water especially boiling water. If the lid is too tight it could cause scalding if you try to remove it if too loose it might come off and break when pouring. I sent one back where the kettle's lid was far too tight. The one I am now using has a lid that fits perfectly tight enough to stay on no matter what temperature the water is and loose enough to come off without struggling with it. Either have the merchant test the kettle before sending or insist that the seller pay for the return if you have to send it back because the lid fits incorrectly. Except for the lid issue this is my favorite kettle. I like that it is all glass and also that it is a heavier glass than most.
Who Wouldn't Love This Kettle When I use this tea kettle I understand why glass is perfect for chemistry it's clean attractive functional and effective. I bought mine a few months ago to heat water for tea and coffee on a gas stove. The tea kettle easily heats enough water for four mugs of tea or makes a pot of french press coffee. As long as you put the kettle on the center of a smaller burner the handle stays cool and you can pick the kettle up without a pot holder. The lid has a rim that prevents it from coming off when you tip the tea kettle to pour.
Beautiful! I absolutely love this tea kettle. I waited awhile for it it was backordered so I was nervous that it might be disappointing. But it was better than I expected. Can hold enough water for several I would guess 45 cups of tea I can see exactly when it is ready to boil.
Very thin glass On the third day of using this kettle I went to pull the lid up from the kettle and all that I got was the knob. The glass broke with just a tug.Other smaller teapots I have that are also made of borosilicate use thicker glass. I guess I know why now.
Best Tea Kettle I've ever owned! I replaced another metal kettle probably my 5th or 6th with this glass kettle.
