Greatif you don't mind a few design issues I got this for my wife. She loves to make tea and I wanted to give her an alternative to using the microwave. On balance she likes it and we've decided to keep it. There are however a number of design issues you should be aware of. These are why I gave the product a 4star instead of a 5star. Since it functions and is made well I wish I could give it a 5star but for us the design issues bring down the rating. Here are the issues IMHO Steam comes up from the back when the unit boilsor reboils. Duhyou might sayIT'S A WATER HEATER! However this is problematic if you want to tuck the unit away underneath an overhanging cabinet. Most of our kitchen counters have overhanging cabinets. If you tuck this unit away under the cabinet the rising steam will eventually warp the wood. We decided to put the unit on a center island. Not ideal but it works. There is no on/off switch on the device. You have to unplug it to turn it off. Even though the plug is a newer type that is easy to connect/disconnect I'm nervous as to how long before the plug wears out. The 6hour timer for us is sort of worthless. Here is how it works.
Ok While this works well it's difficult to clean and takes a REALLY long time to heat up. The magnetic cord like the magsafe power supply on an apple laptop is a neat feature and the unit is well built I just wish it was faster. I usually end up just using a kettle.
LoveDrinkingTea HelloI love drinking tea at work but hated having to nuke water in a cup or pay $3 for a cup of green tea at the Cafe up the street. So I bought the Panasonic NCEH22P Thermo pot and I've been drinking my tea everyday Jan 2011. Its absolutely awesome no nuking no $3 cup of tea.The name Panasonic is definitely trustworthy. I know I know I know you all think what about Zojirushi. I have a Zoji I like the Zoji but I needed a Thermo pot at work but didn't want to spend that kind of money for something that will stay at my office. Well I took a leap of faith with the Panasonic NCEH22P. And I was pretty impressed.Operations on this machine are pretty simple and straight forward. Operates like most other popular the good ones Thermo pots. Finally its small its nice looking its easy to operate and its great VALUE Quality + Price = VALUE.
Convenient hot water with better taste over time than builtin models Since I got married to a person of Russian heritage we've always kept an electric kettle on our counter. It's just common practice similar to other tea drinking cultures and I readily adapted to having hot water always available. We did a kitchen remodel in 2007 and I opted to install an undersink electric hot water heater by the big brand known for garbage disposals as a convenience. My parents have had one of these in various houses over the past 20 years and I knew the water taste suffered over time but I desperately wanted to avoid counterclutter in my newbut still smallkitchen. Since the new models of Instahot had added filtration to the boiler I hoped the water would taste better.Fast forward a couple of years and our electric boiler acquired that metallic taste that my parents' older units always had. Darn! So the quality of my tea went down except for those times I boiled water on the stove or in the microwave because I wasn't willing to replace the ~$400 unit on the builtin. A year after that the builtin began to sputter and spit boiling water when you used it. Ouch! The plumber said turning the temp down might help another hit to tea quality or we could replace the unit. I pulled out our old electric kettle and cluttered up my counter again. But by this point I was concerned about heating water in plastic containers and there weren't any electric kettles available late 2010/early 2011 without some plastic interior parts. Very frustrating. It was then that I decided to accept a nonstick interior not my preference but add the energy saving factor of a Japanese style electric thermal pot. Here's what decided me on this course of action1 Built in systems cost too much and sacrificed too much water qualityboth because they only have one temperature setting and because the boiler degrades over time releasing a metallic taste.2 Electric kettles usually have plastic interior parts that come in contact with the water. They all seemed to over a year ago but I think this has been addressed since. However I also found myself boiling the kettle really really REALLY often. I drink tea and coffee but also just hot water all day long and the water in the kettle cooled off quickly. I would routinely hit the button to boil go do something else then find I needed to reboil the kettle when I remembered what I was intending to do in the first place.
Love it. I bought one of these for our home after trying a similar but different brand at a friend's. I bought this one for my son to use at his office. I love it. My husband and are tea drinkers and we can easily have the type of tea we each want orange pekoe black Chinese tea et cetera. Very convenient and easy to use. The company we bought our from shipped the item quickly and we received it before the estimated date of arrival.
Perfect Panasonic! Purchased this Panasonic 2.3 Qt hot pot to replace a tenyr old unit that required you to pump the hot water old technology which broke. This new one is far superior in quality and takes up less space. And of course you simply push one button to dispense the water. This unit also gives you four choices of water temperature. Amazon had the best price by far! Plus free shipping.
It is perfect !!!! I really love this thermal hot pot even if it take more than half an houre to boil after standby.
Broke down after 2 months The hot pot stopped working after I tried to clean it with water after 2 months of use.The buttons either flashing or just don't light up at all after plugging in the pot to the wall socket. Now trying to contact Panasonic warranty.Let's see if they actually care enough to help me fix this. This definitely does not worth $66 if it only lasts for 2 months.=======================While it was working I agree with some other comments that1. It is stupid that the pot keeps boiling if you set the temperature to higher than the default temperature.2. Well it is very small. If you want to drink hot beverages all the time you should get a bigger hot pot so you don't find yourself refilling water all the time.
Panasonic Thermal Hot Pot is Great I purchased this based on previous reviews. These reviews are so helpful when purchasing items your not familar with such as I was with this thermal pot. It went beyond my expectations. I was concered that the capacity was insufficent being the smaller of the units. It supplies me with plenty of hot tea water for my 34 cups of tea a day habit still has plenty left over. I thought the price was very reasonable.
small form factor perfect for a desk Consno off switch you have to turn it off to unplug it.Water gauge is not accurate until there is only 2 cups left.Takes a while to heat upthe pump is a little bit loudno timer functionNow that the bad stuff is out of the way this is an enormous time saver and my tea consumption has sky rocketed. I really love to drink tea but I hate having to spend so much time in the kitchen to bring water to a simmer 1 cup at a time. I have another electric kettle but it only has the ability to boil water I hate having to watch it for 5 minutes and unplug it so the water is not too hot for my tea. Then once I have finished my cup i have to do the whole thing over again for just one more cup!I bought this thing for the same price as a nice coffee maker and it sits on my desk and keeps water at 180 degrees all night. I have been drinking more tea and less soda my concentration has improved and I am not wasting so much time away from my desk. When this one wears out or I get a chance to buy a new one I am definitely going to want some basic or advanced timer functions so I can have hot water ready in the morning or when I get back home at night. I have also seen some models with a manual pump that I imagine is quieter. For the price this is a great item and I am very happy with it.
